The Southern Appalachians are home to the most diverse populations of amphibians and freshwater fish in the country. Home to largest blackwater swamp in North America, you’ll find black bears, egrets, woodstorcks and sandhill cranes living in harmony with a healthy population of endemic American Alligators. Along our rich coasts, there are opportunities to view frolicking wild horses on beaches, protecting loggerhead turtle nests, spot bottlenose dolphins as well as whale watching during the migratory season.
